I don't know what it is, but in WRC9, it feels right, and in Dirt 5, I feel detached from it. There's good stuff in it, but the driving feels off. Still, I don't think you will regret buying it full-price. If you are not looking for this exact game, I advise you to wait for a discount. There is still way to go in performance and gameplay needs some improvements. However, the game is still far from excellent. There aren't many off-road themed arcade racing games out there with a good selection of racing cars and DiRT 5 is definitely fits into that role perfectly.

In conclusion, I think DiRT 5 is a good addition to DiRT series and a good path to choose for later games of the series. Multiplayer is almost non-existent thanks to low-player count. Sometimes you bounce from walls and sometimes stuck in them, there is no consistency. They simply don't lose traction at ice races which become a pain in the ass. They are usually slow except very low traction conditions and RWD cars where they have an impressive advantage thanks to bad traction modelling. They stick to pre-determined racing lines and usually form queues on slow parts of the track. I can only get 35-45 FPS with a GTX 1070 at high settings and 1920x1080 resolution and graphics is not impressive enough to justify low-fps. Looks like game is released before being fully optimized. However, besides these pros, there are also numerous cons of DiRT 5. You can create real life-like liveries or surrealist art pieces on your bodywork. This game has a relatively simple design suite more like NFS and GRID series and I think it's enough. You don't have Forza Level customization options but I really don't like to mess with a single livery for hours. Soundtrack is a good mixture of high tempo, fast and fierce Punk, Rock, Rap and Electronica. It has some of the most iconic rally cars like Stratos, Impreza S4, Lancer EVO VI or RS200 small Ariel Buggies and huge F-150 Raptors and Dakar Competitors Mini Buggy, VW Touareg and Peugeot 3008. Car list isn't very much impressive but still decent imo. Dynamic Weather and Time are good additions, too. You have Amazon Jungles of Brazil, Mountain Ranges of Nepal, dusty roads of Greece and others. Even though it's advertised as a successor to both DiRT 3 and 4, I think DiRT 5 is more similar to DiRT Showdown. If you want a realistic game, DiRT 5 is not the game that suits you. It depends on what you are looking for at a racing game OP. Sorry, it's a bit long but I hope it helps you to decide. I'm copy-pasting another one of my comments from a similar thread. Trying to be unbiased, but if you want arcade racing, find an old xbox 360 or some other way to play the old dirt 1-3. Hopefully will be fixed, as occasionally I get amazingly beautiful scenes with the right conditions on the right track. If you took away the geographic identifiers I couldn't tell you which track was which. Some are gorgeous but it really comes down to character. track design is great in terms of scenery, but most tracks have a couple cool turns or routes and the rest is an unchallenging, wide, characterless path marked with inconsistent barriers and invisible walls. Very try-hard-to-be-cool-and-fun vibe, which works at times but overall feels kinda forced -as mentioned everywhere, it runs like crap. It's like you're driving a go kart on ice, but with extra traction at times you shouldn't have it. In short, it simply doesn't feel special at all to drive a car. Gymkhana, which requires precise vehicle control, is way harder in this than it was in prior games because I simply don't get enough feedback from the handling model. It's vague, surfaces feel the same, cars seem to only feel different on when they lose traction, and the collision glitches only make it worse. The handling model is just not very Dirt, and not very good. which drags it down into "bad game" territory for me. It would be a passable arcade racer except for the optimization.

But beyond even the poor optimization, the game lacks character.

Maybe on the new series x it'll run better, which will fix the majority of it's problems. At least not on xbox one in it's current state. But for me, it seriously pains me to say, it isn't. As a longtime series fan, I'm trying to be objective about this, and I want to say 5 is a passable racing game. Man, honestly I found dirt 1-3 to be better games and I hate to say it.
